Version 1.5.8

Security fix and block editor update.

  • The Document block no longer shows restricted or expired documents to visitors who can’t access them when page content is loaded through admin-ajax.php (for example by a theme’s “load more” button).
  • Other plugins can now add their own layouts to the Document block’s Layout control. DocVault Pro 1.5.4 uses this to fix the block sidebar when Pro is active. No change if you don’t use Pro.

Bug fixes.

  • Download counts are now recorded correctly when several people download a document at the same time. Previously some downloads could be missed.
  • Saving a document without changing its expiry date no longer records an expiry change. This removes false entries from the DocVault Pro audit log.
  • Upload dates in the admin document list and the [trdv_list] Date column now show in your site’s timezone instead of UTC.

Security update. Recommended for all users.

  • Fixed: stored document files could be downloaded directly from their storage address, bypassing access restrictions and expiry dates. Direct access is now blocked on Apache servers, and existing sites are protected automatically on upgrade. Nginx sites need a server rule — see Troubleshooting.
  • Added a Site Health check that tests whether stored files can be downloaded directly, and shows the exact rule to add if they can. A warning is also shown on DocVault admin screens.
  • The review prompt can now also appear once you have 5 or more documents, after at least 7 days of use.

  • Fixed: expired and restricted documents are now hidden from Query Loop listings.

  • Added: document tags. Use [trdv_list tag="slug"] to filter by tag, or [trdv_list show_tag_filter="true"] for a tag dropdown.
  • Added: drag-and-drop manual sort order in the admin document list. Use [trdv_list orderby="menu_order"] to show that order on the frontend.
  • Added: a View button for PDF and image files, which opens them in the browser instead of downloading.
  • Added: an option to include documents in WordPress site search.
  • Added: optional document descriptions, shown in the document list and the Document block.
  • Added: category and file type filter dropdowns, a download count column, and a clear-search button.
  • Fixed: expiry date calculation on servers whose timezone is not UTC.

  • Uploads are now rejected outright if the file’s content does not match an allowed file type.

  • Files uploaded before 1.4.3 are now reliably hidden from, and protected in, the media library.
  • Older files can be deleted through DocVault’s version management again.

Private document storage.

  • New uploads are no longer added to the WordPress media library. DocVault stores and manages them itself.
  • Older DocVault files are hidden from the media library and cannot be deleted from there by accident.
  • The version limit warning is now a clear banner above the upload area.
  • Security: added path checks to all file serving and deletion.
  • Fixed: the current version is now tracked explicitly, so it is preserved correctly after a Pro merge.

  • Added document expiry dates — set an optional date on any document; once it passes the document is automatically hidden from the [trdv_list] shortcode and AJAX search. Use [trdv_list show_expired="true"] to include expired documents
  • Admin document list highlights expiring documents in amber (within 30 days) and expired documents in red
  • Fixed the DocVault block and [trdv_link] shortcode now check access control before exposing the document title, file metadata, and download URL to users who do not have permission to view the document
  • Fixed frontend query now applies access-control filtering at the database level for anonymous users, so document counts and pagination are accurate
