If your site shares lots of documents, such as policies, reports or forms, a single searchable library page is easier for visitors than links scattered across pages. Here is how to add one with DocVault, a free document management plugin.
Step by step
- Install and activate DocVault from WordPress.org.
- Go to Documents → Add New and upload your documents. The title is filled in from the filename, and you can edit it.
- Create a page, add a Shortcode block, and enter
[trdv_list]. - Publish the page.
What visitors get
- A search box that filters the list as they type.
- Title, Type, Size and Date columns. Click a column heading to sort by it.
- Pagination, with 20 documents per page by default.
- Download buttons, plus a View button that opens PDFs in the browser.
Add filters
Let visitors narrow the list with dropdowns for category, tag and file type:
[trdv_list show_category_filter="true" show_tag_filter="true" show_type_filter="true"]
You can also fix the list to one category, tag or file type, for example a page that only shows policies:
[trdv_list category="policies"]
Organise your documents
Give documents categories and tags, add an optional description that visitors can expand in the list, and drag documents into your own order in the Documents list. Show that order with [trdv_list orderby="menu_order"]. The DocVault documentation lists every shortcode setting.
Want a custom layout?
Documents can also be shown with WordPress’s Query Loop block, so you can design your own layout in the block editor. Linking the title takes visitors straight to the download.
